Annabel Williams 99 Portrait Photo Ideas

99 Portrait Photo Ideas: Photographing people is 90% psychology and 10% technique (99 Photo Ideas)

Don’t be put off by the front cover – it does look like it’s aimed at people who have never picked up a camera before, but rest assured it’s a book for photographers who like to go out and enjoy working with people, but don’t want to get bogged down with the technical stuff.

This book really inspired me, like no other photography book had managed before.  I’m not a big fan of technical books and find my mind wandering as I read about all the (amazing) stuff my camera can do – though that’s not to say it isn’t important to understand your camera  The book was really useful and really inspired me because it looked at the other side of photography, the emotion and put simply what makes a great picture.

There isn’t a lot of writing (but oh so many beautiful images) , but the images are explained in terms of composition and lighting, why backgrounds are important, and why it isn’t important to be spending hours in front of the computer editing...get out there and take some photos!
